Our World in Movies
When one person asks another, "What is your favorite movie?", That person is usually met with the title of a film and follow up questions are not normally asked. Instead, the person asking the question often responds with "cool!" or "me too!" if conditions permit. But I now ask you this: why is your favorite movie your favorite movie? Maybe it's because it includes your favorite actor, or maybe it's because the movie plugs a political commentary or position that you agree with. Occasionally, someone will enjoy the world of a movie and that's what prompts them to make it their favorite. In those cases, usually, the world of the film is filled with elements so detailed and vivid that all other aspects of the movie could be horrendous and the hypothetical person would still call it their favorite movie. Those. In this way, our world and the worlds of movies have many parallels. In my writing for this site, I hope to relate our world to movies to both fulfill my infatuation with world building but to also allow my readers to see our world through a filmmaker's lens.
